What agentic means.

"Agentic" describes AI that does a piece of work, not just answers a question.

A chatbot answers.
You ask; it replies. What happens next is up to you.
Automation follows a script.
The same fixed steps every time, and it usually stops when something doesn't fit.
An agent does a defined job.
It's given one job, the information and tools it needs, and rules to follow. It works out the steps, and hands a person whatever the rules say a person must decide.
A platform puts them to work.
An agentic business platform is where several agents work on the same records, alongside your people.

Think of a new hire on probation.

You give a new hire a clear job, only the access that job needs, and a manager who signs off their work. As they prove themselves, you check less.

After a serious mistake, you check more again. AI agents can be treated the same way, with the evidence written down and the business signing each step.
